The owners of this property on Cartmel Road were looking for more light and space in their home. So, we achieved this by building a large, single storey gable end extension to their property – the entire end side of which comprised solely of glass in a black painted steel frame. The extension itself was comprised of brick, a cavity wall and supporting steelwork for the roof.

The owners of 11 Cartmel Road were looking for more light and space in their home. So, we achieved this by building a large, single storey gable end extension to their property – the entire end side of which comprised solely of glass in a black painted steel frame. The extension itself was comprised of brick, a cavity wall and supporting steelwork for the roof.

The bottom glass panels of the side could be slid back, allowing access to the rear garden. These panels could be left open when the weather was warm, giving the impression of even more space, with no barrier between the garden and the inside flooring.

Inside, the space was large enough to incorporate a kitchen and dining area with the kitchen island acting as a divide between the kitchen and sitting area. The island had a hob, allowing whoever was cooking to chat with others in the sitting room while preparing a meal.

The sitting room had a wall-fitted TV above the fireplace and a central breast to provide a focal point, while the dining table was placed at the end of the extension in front of the glass, to allow those eating to have a feeling of space and airiness.

Lighting – other than natural daylight – was in the form of spot lights which can be dimmed at will. The overall look is contemporary, spacious and airy.
