PERIOD BUILDINGS
Designing period buildings across the North East
Victorian terraces, Georgian townhouses, farm buildings and former chapels. Period properties are some of the most rewarding buildings to work on, and some of the hardest to get right. We help owners across the North East extend, convert and modernise older buildings in a way that respects their character and satisfies the council.
3D VISUALISATION
Bringing your design to life.
Pyramid Architectural Design Ltd use the most advanced visualisation and 3D modelling techniques to bring concepts to life.
Sympathetic extensions and alterations
Most owners of period homes want the same thing: more space, more light and a home that works for modern life, without the new part looking bolted on. We design additions that take their cues from the original building, from proportions and rooflines to materials and detailing, so old and new sit comfortably together. At Hillingdon House in Saltburn, we extended a five-bedroom Victorian home with an open-plan kitchen, dining and family space while keeping the character that made the house special.

Listed buildings and conservation areas
If your property is listed, most alterations need listed building consent, and carrying out works without it is a criminal offence. In a conservation area, many of the permitted development rights other homeowners rely on are restricted. We establish what consents your project needs at the outset, prepare drawings to the level of detail the council’s heritage officers expect, and manage the application on your behalf.
Giving old buildings a new use
Barns, chapels and outbuildings often outlive their original purpose. Converting them means keeping what makes them special while meeting modern standards. At Tunstall Hall Farm in Hartlepool, we turned a barn in the Green Belt into a three-bedroom family home, overcoming objections from neighbours and conservationists with an exterior designed to match its surroundings.

See the change before you commit
Changes to a period building are hard to judge from 2D drawings alone, for owners and planning officers alike. Our 3D visualisations show exactly how an extension or alteration will sit alongside the existing building, making design decisions easier and strengthening the case for approval.

From the first site visit to approved drawings, we balance your plans for the property with the character of the building and the expectations of the local authority.
