This project in South Parade, Northallerton involved converting an existing two storey building which formerly housed an accountancy firm, into a contemporary salon and training centre..
At the rear of the building there was to be a New Build self-contained duplex unit, housing a café. The spec for the café was for a contemporary unit with an emphasis on eco style. As a result, we used floor to ceiling glass windows along the exterior wall of the café. Two of these glass panels were doors which allowed access to an outside seating area. Glass is recyclable and it allowed plenty of natural daylight into the interior of the café.
A large, wooden, rounded cantilevered all-weather canopy was created using steel metal framing and cedar wood cladding. This provided cover for the outside area and gave the café its eco appeal. Wooden planters with plenty of greenery added to the ‘natural materials’ look we were aiming for. They also added interest, colour and texture to the design.
The wood for the window boxes matched that of adjoining fencing, giving the whole exterior a pleasing coordinated appearance. The exterior flooring for the café consisted of large concrete tiles placed in a diagonal fashion.
